South Sound Experience
Line-up: Stjepko Gut, Rino Cirinnà, Marcello Pellitteri, Roberto Occhipinti & Joe Debono
South Sound Experience is a project composed of international musicians performing jazz music from the 1950s.
‘Come back to Sicily’ is the first disco graphic project directed by Stjepko Gut (trumpet/ improvisation), who is one of the best exponents of the period and is very well versed in the idiom of this particular kind of jazz.
The rest of the project is made up of Rino Cirinnà, a tenor saxophonist with a powerful sound, who has often been a guest at the Jazz Festival in Malta; drummer Marcello Pellitteri, who resides in New York, teaches at Berklee College in Boston and plays regularly with the New York Voices; and double-bassist Roberto Occhipinti, a Canadian of Italian origin, who has won several Canadian Grammy awards and is considered as one of the most important Canadian musicians.
All four artists will be giving out masterclasses during the festival.
The band will also feature the special participation of Joe Debono, one of Malta's renowned pianists.
