Jenni Caruana
The artist, Jeni Caruana, learnt her drawing skills at an early age, emerging from Harrow College of Art in 1973 with a formidable gift for translating the world around her into line.
Settling in Malta in 1978, she has continued to develop this talent, becoming one of the foremost exponents of watercolours on the Island. Her subjects have always been many and varied, and over the years her techniques have grown to encompass acrylics and mixed media, including three-dimensional works. Her emphasis on good solid drawing skills runs through all of her work, and is passed on to her students. Jeni tutors private classes and painting holidays in Malta.
Ever since the early years of the Malta Jazz Festival, Jeni Caruana has been setting up her easel and painting the musicians as they perform.
She has become a familiar sight, furiously painting in an attempt to capture the rich fusion of music, lights, enthusiastic audiences, Grand Harbour, the sea and balmy Maltese evenings.
Working at speed in acrylics on paper, Jeni creates visual impressions rather than portraits. Each year the results are slightly different, affected by inner and outer factors
